Microgreens: An Introduction
Are microgreens new to you? You are in the right spot.
Microgreens are having a bit of a cultural moment as they grow in popularity with chefs and everyday eaters alike. Even so, many people have never heard of them.
Here we explore what microgreens are, why people love them, and how you can easily add these flavor and nutrient powerhouses to your everyday meals.
What are microgreens?
Said simply, microgreens are tiny versions of vegetables, familiar and unfamiliar.
Radish, pea, kale, cabbage, broccoli, sunflower, mustard, beets, and chard to name only a few.
To look at them as tiny plants, you might not recognize them. They grow quickly from seed and are ready to harvest in as little as 8-10 days.
So while these "micro-greens" may look unfamiliar, their tastes and colors are the same as their mature forms.
Why do people like them?
Big flavor Many chefs and fans of microgreens say they have powerful flavors that match or exceed that of full grown vegetables.
Fun shapes and colors In addition to their big flavor, microgreens can have visually stunning colors. Their shapes and sizes also make them versatile additions to all kinds of recipes.
Convenience Microgreens take zero prep and can be used right out of the package.
Health Benefits Microgreens are "whole foods" that naturally contain vitamins and minerals that support human health. As part of a balanced lifestyle, microgreens can support healthy bodyweight, energy, mental health, and more.
How do I use them?
Here are just a few of the many ways to use microgreens

What does "whole food" mean?
"Whole food" is a marketing term. It refers to foods that have been minimally processed, are unrefined, and have no added ingredients. It is not precisely defined by any regulatory body (at least not in the US). Companies can use this label on foods without evidence validating their claims. This can mislead people.
We choose to use this term because it has been common knowledge for many years that eating a varied diet of unaltered, natural foods, like microgreens, supports optimal human functioning. Synthetic and highly-processed foods cause degradation and disease in humans, something modern science is affirming.
When we use this term in association with promoting our microgreens, we intend to use it in good faith with all of our collaborators, customers, and their communities.
Are your microgreens in grocery stores or at the farmers market?
Currrently, no. We plan to make them available there and updates will follow as opportunities to serve our community progress.
